Title: Noise and Climate Dynamics

Abstract:

In physics noise is usually associated with small and fast perturbations on the system under study, i.e. something we want to get rid off.

However, in complex systems, like turbulent flows and climate dynamics, noise should be considered as the result of different dynamical processes which we cannot neglect. In this talk I discuss the effect of climate noise: after a short review of the paleoclimatic data and the pioneering work of Hasselmann, I describe the mechanism of Stochastic Resonance and its relevance in climate changes.
